This is a cute series that I would recommend with a good, relaxing cup of tea. I just finished book 1. The style is a "cozy mystery." I had never heard of that before. But then I read an article about this author and learned about some of the books she's written. Outside of this series, she also has a series that centers around a scrapbook store! Well, you can bet I'm checking out that one.
The book has a good base of characters, it knows its tea, and it has a mystery with many different avenues that keeps you guessing whodunit.
I think the author had a good balance between the main character's personal life and her movement within the murder mystery. Her life never distracted from the mystery. It just added a bit more flavor to the blend. And I believed the reasons for Theodosia sleuthing were credible ones.
The setting was gorgeous. Childs creates engaging word pictures. I've never been to Charleston, but I could easily picture the atmosphere. She creates a space you want to go to as a reader.
There were a few moments of repetition in the dialogue. But I overall liked the character interactions, their motivations, and their relationships to one another. Childs also creates some cute character names: Miss Dimple, Delaine Dish (social gossip), and Earl Gray (loyal dog to Theo).
This was my cup of tea. It was fun, engaging, and good to read when relaxing.
As tea continues to rise in popularity, this comprehensive guide explores the celebrated beverage through the eyes of a certified tea specialist. From its sometimes murky origins to today's wide range of tea ceremonies, Lisa Boalt Richardson delves into the world of tea to create a fresh and accessible package for tea rookies and gurus alike. I have read this book, and it is great for beginners to experts!
